Know India Programme (KIP)

Know India Programme is a three-week orientation programme for Indian diaspora youth (18-30 years as at the beginning of the month of the prog) conducted with a view to promote awareness on different facets of life in India and the progress made by the country in various fields e.g. economic, industrial, education, science & technology, communication & information Technology, culture etc. KIP provides a unique forum for students & young professionals to share their views, expectations & experiences and to develop closer bonds with the contemporary India.

Main elements of KIP:

a) Understanding India’s political system, economy, society, and developments in various sectors etc. Meetings with senior leadership/officials/NGOs.

b) Visit to places of historical, cultural, religious importance; villages, industrial sites

c) Familiarization with art, music and culture of India,

d) Visit to a select state in India for 10 days.


a) The Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of India will take care of participants only for the duration of the program. If participants wish to arrive in India early or stay extra, they will have to make their own arrangements.

b) The participants are provided local hospitality e.g. boarding/lodging in budget hotels and internal transportation in India.

c) Indian Missions/ Aboard Posts will arrange for return air tickets before participants leave for India, after getting 10% of total air fare from them.

d) Gratis visa shall be granted. Participants must obtain travel and medical insurance, Yellow Fever certificate,  before a gratis visa is issued.

Eligibility Criteria:

1.   Age: The programme is open to youth of Indian origin (excluding non-resident Indians) in the age group of 18-30 years, as on the first day of the month in which the programme is expected to begin.  

2.   KIP is open to PIO youth from all over the world. Applicant must provide his/her previous OCI/PIO card number or that of his parents, grandparents or great grandparents. In the absence of any documentary proof of Indian Origin, the applicant must submit a written undertaking about his Indian Origin (Proof of Indian Origin form can be found on the KIP website).

3.   The applicant should not have participated in any previous KIP or any Programme organised by Federal/State Government of India. Those who have not visited India before will be given preference.

4.   Educational Qualification: Minimum qualification required for participating in KIP is graduation from a recognized University /Institute or enrolled for graduation.

5.   Language: Applicants should be able to speak in English.

6.   Passport:  Candidates should possess a passport issued by Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, Dominica or Montserrat.

After submitting the online application, hard copies of the duly filled application form, passport copy, Undertaking, proof of Indian origin and copies of relevant academic certificates must be dropped off (or sent via post) to the High Commission within seven days, in order to process your application.
